HP recupera liderazgo en ventas de PCs (Inglés)

SAN FRANCISCO – Hewlett-Packard recaptured the worldwide lead in personal computer shipments from Dell in the third quarter as global market growth slowed, according to two industry research groups.
 
Gartner said Wednesday that Hewlett-Packard rose to No.1 for the first time since the fourth quarter of 2003 with a lead of 110,000 units over Dell. IDC put the lead at 28,000, which it considered a statistical tie, at 17.2 percent of the world market.
 
The surveys are the latest illustration of challenges for Dell, which is struggling with disappointing financial results and the biggest electronics recall in U.S. history, while Hewlett-Packard is turning around its business under Mark Hurd as chief executive.
 
Worldwide PC shipment growth fell 7.9 percent from a year ago with a 0.7 percent decline in the United States offsetting a double-digit increase in Europe and pulling down the overall results, IDC said in the quarterly report.
 
For the quarter, HP’s worldwide shipments rose 15.1 percent while Dell’s gained 3.6 percent, IDC said.
