BARCELONA: Alcatel, the French telephone-equipment maker that is buying Lucent Technologies, said most of the job cuts planned as part of the takeover will take place in the North America and Western Europe.
“Most job cuts are in high-cost countries,” Jean-Pascal Beaufret, chief financial officer, said at a technology and media conference in Barcelona. “Ninety percent of total head-count reduction will be done in Western Europe or North America.”
Alcatel plans to cut 9,000 jobs, Beaufret reiterated.
